E-REDES Cuts Down Protected Cork Oak Forest
On 20 January, Milvoz identified the complete felling of a mature cork oak grove in Lamas (Miranda do Corvo), within a fuel management strip under the responsibility of E-REDES. The situation was reported to SEPNA/GNR to investigate the legality of the intervention. The cork oak is a tree protected by law and its felling requires authorisation from the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF). In such cases, the area may only be thinned for the sole purpose of reducing continuous fuel load.
