Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve: Nature with a History

Ler em Português

Milvoz took part in another edition of Por Terras de Almalaki, an initiative organised by ADC Almalaguês, this year dedicated to the theme “Green Gold in Art”, with olive trees and olive oil as its central focus. As part of the programme, we led a walk to the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve under the theme “Nature with a History”.

Along the route, participants were invited to look at the landscape of Almalaguês from a historical perspective, exploring how it has been shaped over the centuries. Changes in forest cover, different forms of agricultural and forestry use, the abandonment of some traditional practices, and the gradual transformation of the territory were among the topics discussed during the walk.

This perspective helps us understand that the landscape we see today is the result of a long interaction between natural processes and human activity. Many of its current features, from the distribution of native woodlands to the presence of agricultural areas, shrublands and forest plantations, reflect decisions and changes accumulated over several generations.

The walk was also an opportunity to introduce participants to the biodiversity found within the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve and to the work Milvoz has been carrying out to protect, restore and enhance this area. We would like to thank everyone who joined us in discovering a landscape where nature and history are deeply intertwined.
