October starts with birds

Ler em Português

The first Saturday in October was a day for getting in touch with nature. Milvoz and SPEA (Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds) organised a birdwatching event as part of the international ‘Eurobirdwatch’ initiative run by BirdLife.

Morraceira Island, in Figueira da Foz, was the venue chosen for the event due to the area’s rich birdlife. Around 30 participants joined us to observe birds as diverse as the tiny little kingfisher and the majestic osprey. Whether using binoculars or with the naked eye, we recorded an impressive 46 species, including the flamingo, the pied avocet, the oystercatcher, the Eurasian whimbrel, the spoonbill and the great egret.

We would like to thank the participants for joining us and for the spirit of sharing and joy they brought to this beautiful morning. New Milvoz activities will be taking place in the coming weeks and months. Keep an eye out so you can take part too!
