The start of this year was marked by the felling of several eucalyptus trees at the top of the slope at the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve, using prize money from EDP's Planeta Zero competition. Since then, vigorous regrowth from the base of these plants made control action necessary. On the last weekend of September we gathered with this mission in mind and successfully suppressed all eucalyptus regrowth.
Eucalyptus is one of the most damaging exotic species for Portuguese biodiversity and, unfortunately, it is present in this Bio-Reserve. Since acquiring the land, Milvoz has been working to eliminate its influence and allow native broadleaf trees to reign. We can say we are on the right track!
