Part of Serra de Brasfemes, an area of particular biological value and habitat for several botanical treasures, has already been partially razed in recent days. The initiative belongs to CIMPOR and involves the installation of a photovoltaic plant across 12 hectares of the ridge.
Following the repeated cases exposed in recent weeks, this is yet another example of how permissive current legislation is towards the destruction of unclassified areas of high biological value. This critical situation, at the doorstep of the city of Coimbra, is one more terrible example to add to the several similar projects that are highly damaging to well-preserved ecosystems, at a regional and national scale.
