GPS — Grupo Protecção Sicó is an association specialising in geology and speleology that operates in the Serra do Sicó region, though the knowledge and interests of its members are broader and also encompass wildlife. Recently, they collaborated with us to allow us to explore the sinkhole at the Bio-Reserve da Morena, which would not have been possible without their equipment and expertise. This time it was our turn to return the favour, helping to survey the biodiversity for the 1st Bioblitz de Sicó.

This event took place last Saturday, 2 September, in the locality of Ereiras. By the time the event ended, with night already fallen, the results included several species of nocturnal and diurnal butterflies observed, as well as bats recorded. It is a pleasure to see the number of bioblitzes in Portugal growing over the years — and an even greater pleasure to take part in them.
