Oak woodland razed for illegal eucalyptus plantation in Ansião

Milvoz has found a new plot of land that was illegally converted into a eucalyptus plantation, this time in the municipality of Ansião. A considerable area of Portuguese oak was razed and replaced by eucalyptus trees, an event that occurred after the entry into force of Law no. 77/2017 of 17 August.

This exotic tree is highly flammable and, when multiplied in extensive unmanaged monocultures, fuels extremely violent fires, such as those that have recently ravaged our territory. Milvoz strongly opposes assaults on the natural and landscape heritage of this kind and has filed a complaint with SEPNA and ICNF. On the contrary, our investments must focus on reinforcing native, biodiverse and fire-resistant woodland.

The images below, before and after the intervention respectively, demonstrate the scale of the damage and confirm that we must remain constantly vigilant about our forests. Unfortunately, this plantation is not an isolated case in the region, and several others are currently being analysed by Milvoz.

This is the second report of conversion to eucalyptus plantation that we have made this year (see the first here ).
