Drawn in by the sounds of Spring, we decided to organise 2 wildlife observation activities at the Bio-Reserve Senhora da Alegria, in the second half of March.
As night falls, it is the ideal time to descend the hillside and search for frogs and salamanders in the dampest corners of the Bio-Reserve. So it was on 18 March — a wonderful moment shared with 5 visitors who follow Milvoz's work. We had the opportunity to record the Bosca's newt (Lissotriton boscai) and marbled newt (Triturus marmoratus), the fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) and the iconic Iberian frog (Rana iberica) and gold-striped salamander (Chioglossa lusitanica).
The following week, with the sun still shining, we welcomed 4 enthusiasts who came to listen and observe the birds that bring life to the Bio-Reserve. In the bustling springtime flurry, we managed to identify 25 species, with highlights being the Eurasian bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) and the great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major).
