Defending native oak woodland: our public consultation submission

What we are arguing for, why, and how you can lend your voice.

What is at stake

The proposed revision of the Regional Forestry Plan (PROF) for Central Portugal opens a public consultation window that Milvoz could not let pass.

The document proposes expanding eucalyptus and maritime pine plantations into areas we consider priority zones for the recovery of native oak woodland habitat — specifically Quercus robur and Quercus pyrenaica — in the Mondego and Vouga river basins.

Our position

Milvoz submitted a technical consultation response with the following main points:

  • Opposing the expansion of monocultures in areas of high biodiversity potential
  • Demanding ecological suitability maps as the basis for any forest expansion decisions
  • Proposing ecological corridors linking existing oak woodland patches
  • Including local communities in land-use decision processes

How you can help

The public consultation is open until 30 April. Any citizen can submit a response. Here you will find a response template we prepared to make participation easier.
